Great Lake Hotel in Tasmania is a well-regarded 3-star hotel that boasts a serene location in the Tasmanian highlands. Guests are impressed with the pleasant ambience of the hotel, which is surprising considering the remote area it is situated in. The restaurant offers delicious seafood chowder, an interesting prawn and chorizo salad and exceptional wallaby patties. However, one negative aspect that some guests have experienced is the quality of the fish and chips which has disappointed. In terms of accommodations, the hotel provides clean and comfortable rooms with stunning views of the dam if selected. The staff is highly praised for their exceptional service and willingness to go above and beyond. The Great Lake Hotel is located at 3096 Marlborough Highway, Miena TAS 7030, Australia and operates with check-in time at 2:00 PM and check-out time at 10:00 AM.

Such a surprise in what feels like the middle of nowhere.
Great ambiance, warm and cozy fire burns as you look out over the lake with and absolutely wonderful view. The amazing mullet behind the bar was a standout.
Meals were delicious and served quickly. Serving staff were attentive, but not over the top. Highly recommend the steak
What a beautiful place, everything was awesome. The views and location are beautiful. The set up for your beloved dogs outside was a highlight for my partner and I, it’s so nice to see the care for our pets. The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble, and the food was so good, we’d come back in a heartbeat if we lived closer.
What a cool place, very well themed without being over the top. Classy one might say. The food and beer was delicious and very large servings, you can't go hungry. Child friendly too! The service was with a smile 😁 …
The hotel is situated in the most lovely spot in the Tasmanian highlands. The ambience is okay, more than one would expect in such a remote area. The sea food chowder was very nice. The prawn and chorizo salad was an interesting creation. The Wallaby patties were exceptional. Soft and juicy inside and a lightly crusty charred outside gave complementary textures.
What was surprising and extremely disappointing was the fish and chips. As mentioned in another review, it was horrible. To think that a renowned chef with national and international repute would not pay attention to something as basic as fish and chips!!. The fish was stale, tough and the batter was like it had been fried repetitively after being stored in the freezer! If fresh fish is difficult to source please take it off the menu.
I have tried to be fair and balanced with the review.
What a great place to stay in the middle of the highlands. Room was very clean and comfortable and the complimentary breakfast food was a lovely added bonus. Staff were friendly and the food was excellent. Great value for a really pleasant stay :)
We stopped in for an impromptu Sunday lunch and were warmly received and accommodated.
The food is delicious! Beautifully cooked comfort food. I could imagine being up there in the snow, by the roaring fire with a glass of Tasmanian red wine, the delicious slow cooked beef stew with dumplings and a delicious dessert to follow.
We had a spontaneous dinner on a Sunday night. What a lovely meal. Sweets could have been a little bit hotter but nice all the same.
Couldn't recommend high enough.
A bit of an error with bookings and we didn't realise we had booked a room without toilet and shower.
The gentleman that served us upon arrival couldn't have been more helpful. We upgraded to a room with a view of the dam and with a shower and toilet, only available for the one night instead of two- we couldn't have been more impressed with it. Short notice and yet the room was immaculate. The beds were the most comfortable and the linen was fresh. Would very much recommend this hotel for a place to stay and the staff (including bar staff and raffle lady) were wonderful. Great job guys.
